Dear Reentry Team,

[cid:image001.jpg at 01DBD94B.B0AC7B70]Please join me in welcoming Janece Levien as the Education Services Administrator, effective July 1, 2025. In her new role, Janece will lead the education services unit and work in partnership with the State Board for Community and Technical Colleges, colleges and universities, and nonprofit partners to provide Adult Basic Education, pre-apprenticeships and vocational training, and postsecondary certificate and degree programs statewide.

Janece began her career in 2011 as a Peace Corps volunteer in rural Guatemala. Upon returning to the U.S., she has focused her graduate studies and career on education and community engagement centered on relationships, social impact, and increasing access. She started her professional career working at a group home as a bilingual youth counselor, then supervisor, before transitioning to work in higher education access. She then spent six and a half years at community foundations supporting grantmaking and community engagement in the areas of youth development, 2020 Census and civic engagement, Covid-19 response funding, and collaborative networks in Kitsap, Lewis, Mason, Pierce, and Thurston counties.

Janece transitioned to the Department of Children, Youth & Families - Juvenile Rehabilitation in 2023 as the Associate Director of Education - Green Hill School. She joined as part of the newly established statewide education team based on the recommendations of House Bill 1295 for improving outcomes in institutional education. At Green Hill School, she formed and led a team of education & career specialists that focused on improving the academic culture at the facility by increasing educational access and enrichment opportunities, enhancing data and information tracking and sharing, and improving partnerships. In December 2024, she then expanded her leadership to support postsecondary, vocational, work experience, and reentry transition. Since joining JR, Janece has worked in collaborative partnership with Chehalis School District, ESD 112, Centralia College, and other external stakeholders while also managing contracts for various programs at Green Hill School.

Janece earned her bachelor's degree in sociology from the University of Puget Sound and a Master's in Educational Leadership from Concordia University-Portland. In her free time, she enjoys spending time with her fiancé and dog, exploring the woods, hunting, fishing, hiking, traveling, cooking, and spending time with friends and family.
