[CATO] Lucid now live in Canvas RCE

Amy,

Andy Duckworth and I received an email from a gentleman last week asking about LucidChart.  Andy replied to him and added the following:

“We ended our contract with LucidChart back in August of 2023 due to the increasing cost.”

I realize this has nothing to do with Canvas’s partnership with Lucid, though. 😊




Please note my summer hours from June 16 - August 31:
8:00 a.m. to 5:30 p.m., Monday through Thursday and 8:00 a.m. to noon on Friday.

Hi All - I'm feeling very frustrated with Canvas and Lucid right now.  See my rant below that I sent to all of our WA SBCTC Canvas Admins...

TL;dr - Canvas has set up a partnership with Lucid (Lucid Spark/ Lucid Chart)  that is a direct integration into Canvas which is difficult/ if not impossible to turn off at the college level. Lucid doesn't have a publicly available VPAT and has been cagey about sharing information out. I saw a demo at InstructureCon last week and have serious concerns about its accessibility. I have requested info and will share as soon as I receive it.

Hi All,

I was at InstructureCon last week and got a glimpse at the Lucid integration in the RCE. I have serious concerns re: its accessibility (not to mention usability - the demo was a confusing mess). We cannot toggle it on and off. It's there now for everyone.

They do not have a public VPAT. I asked questions in a live session and the presenters didn't know/couldn't answer my questions about accessibility.

I searched their website and came up with an article that describes how a user can create "more accessible" things with their product.

Finally search Canvas Community and found this note from Vanessa Cicero who works for Lucid. In response to folks questions about VPATs, accessibility, etc.:
      "@jenn_stevens<https://community.canvaslms.com/t5/user/viewprofilepage/user-id/104137> we require a completed NDA in order to share our VPAT information.  If you email me (vcicero at lucid.co<mailto:vcicero at lucid.co>), I can send you in the right direction to get this information. "

Never a good sign when you have to sign an NDA to get a VPAT! Lots of follow up chatter from folks about how needing to sign a NDA is not good, California State Univ San Marcos even stated that they will not sign NDAs to get VPATs.

And then an about face and suddenly Lucid is "freely sharing" their VPAT but you still have to email someone to get it. Email bdavis at lucid.co<mailto:bdavis at lucid.co> to request Lucid’s VPAT and Accessibility roadmap.

Sigh...

I have reached out to get a copy to both people. I encourage all of you to reach out too - the more the merrier! Flood their inbox so they know how important this is to WA state!
