Doug,
I completely agree with you. I hope as CATO develops guidance documentation that we can be explicit that there are no exceptions when it comes to student populations.

Andy,
I’m not a lawyer and don’t play one in the movies either. But I’d guess that one would still need to make this content accessible. I’ve heard over the years that roughly a third of the prison population may have learning disabilities which may have led them to some of their poor choices in life.
If some of this population is using technology for those with dyslexia it would benefit from much of the structure called for to serve those using screen reading tech due to blindness of low vision. Ditto with accessibility for those using speech recognition.
Many of those with learning disabilities I worked with over the years might struggle to read content but could take it in by listening to the material read by text-to-speech technology. And they might also have difficulty writing/typing in their output but might use a combination of speech recognition software and tools like WYNN to aid them in correcting the difference between “there”, “their” and “they’re.”
Our goal as a society (I assume) is to have these people pay for their offenses by being separated from the general population for a time but also to learn how to reintegrate into society with new skills to be honest, productive participants. They’d succeed in the latter by learning the skills including assistive technology when those were applicable.

Morning CATO folks!
I received this email today from one of our Corrections Education Deans. I found it a bit disconcerting that one of the colleges was not planning to include Corrections Education content in their review for Title II. Could we include, in our guidance documentation, the importance of reviewing ALL educational content as it shouldn't matter the audience, correct?

Hi All,
Has anyone started looking at the new Digital Accessibility Standards for higher education? I am not confident that our current CANVAS courses meet the new standards – where is everyone in the evaluation process? It is my understanding that we have until April 2026 to make everything compliant. I know that Peninsula is working on ensuring that all digital materials meet the new standards, but our offline classes and the classes on the OSN won’t be included in the review – at least not at PC.
Here is a blog that provides some basic information -
Preparing for New ADA Digital Accessibility Standards • TechNotes Blog (tcea.org)<https://blog.tcea.org/preparing-for-new-ada-digital-accessibility-standards/#:~:text=For%20K-12%20schools%20in%20areas%20with%20populations%20of,in%20smaller%20areas%20have%20until%202027%20to%20comply.>
Thanks,
-Maria
