[Cato] [External] RE: Part 1 commission presentation

I also had questions about slides 4, 5, and 6. Slide 4 is the national average, I believe - so is slide 5 saying that "only half [of the 12%?] will self-identify as disabled," or that 12% is half of the expected total number of SWDs? According to DataWarehouse Table 24B, in 2016-2017 there were 12,981 students coded in our system, meaning they use the services of DSS. This is not the same number as those who disclose a disability. For example, on my campus, these coded students are roughly two-thirds of the total number of students who disclose or "self-identify" as having a disability (the other third of whom don't use our services). Sorry to make this more confusing - I just want to be sure we're not comparing apples to oranges. I guess it was mainly slide 5 that threw me.

Regarding slide 34, I do recall that at one time we discussed the option of a Center that might be housed on a campus (similar to the alternate format services provided - and charged for - by CWU). We had a lot of questions about how it would work in our system, and I don't remember that we spent any more time exploring it . . .

Once again, nice job - I especially love your slides on the evolution of architectural design!

Hi Terence,

Just a couple of questions:

Slide 9: Where is this list from --- is it just those that had to pay monetary damage?

Slide 34: "The first idea is for us to create a Technology Accessibility Service Center staffed by experts. Our initial thinking is that the center would be managed by SBCTC, but located on a campus (for access to disabled students). It would provide the following services to colleges:

-Testing of software applications

-Testing of websites for accessibility problems

-A database of accessible technology . . . And it could also

-Fix website accessibility problems"

-- Located on a campus? I'm not sure I've heard that idea (and it why would students need access? - and only students at one school?)

--- Also worth mentioning that this is California's approach.

---- Is there even a possibility of this type of structure being approved (I just always assumed not)? Has Mark signed off on it because I suppose it'd fall under him?

Thanks!!
Jess

Hello,

Yes, I can make the HRMC meeting on Friday.

I combined your slides into one show on Google Slides (so that you can easily share it and not chop it up to send back and forth). https://docs.google.com/presentation/d/1WPJw4-j6Gc59RErovNXYGtXeelcn-tHj3sr6oQ65n08/edit?usp=sharing

I'm attaching a draft of a presentation soliciting input from the commissions. To make sense of it start by viewing it with the images on top and the notes below.

Jess will be at WSSSC, Ward is game to go too and Jess should be able to make HRMC as well. I have tentatively gotten time on HRMC's agenda for shortly before noon on Friday. Will confirm once Jess confirms that she is willing to do the presentation to HRMC.

After we get your initial feedback Jess and I will work together to finalize.

Terence
