Subject: [External] [Cato] OCR complaint and resolution!

Guess what y'all! Just got this message from someone at Community Colleges of Spokane (they were contacting me about training):

CCS has received a complaint regarding the accessibility compliance of two of our websites and we are working with the Department of Education Office of Civil Rights on a voluntary resolution agreement. This proposed agreement includes: Updates to some policies, future website audits after improvements are completed and website accessibility training for all content contributors.

Yay!!

I just wanted to share because as you go to council and commission meetings, or talk about anything accessibility, we can now let folks know that one of our colleges is in the process of addressing a complaint. I wouldn't say which one, unless someone from the college volunteers that info, but I think it is good for colleges in our system to know that one of their counterparts (?) has been hit with a violation, so it's not unlikely the same happens to them.

(I also asked the person at Spokane if I can collaborate with them on the training so that I could learn a bit more about the resolution process in order to help ensure SBCTC/CATO can best support them and our system. -- Will keep you updated on what I hear.)

Sady, this makes me so happy... Maybe someone else will get a complaint next week! 😜
