Monica,
What I heard suggested a few years back at an all-day Accessing Higher Ground pre-conference session was to take the plain text file that will later be synched by YouTube and put the spaces in manually such as this before and after:
Before:
Here is some text that goes on and on. When the captions get displayed they should be limited to 32 character long lines and only two lines appearing at a time. Sometimes though we see 3 or more lines appearing and that is not good. I’ve seen that with Panopto and it has a scroll thingy on the right hand side to be able to see the rest of the captions which needs to be improved upon. Captioningkey has a number of recommendations for best practices.

Doing that spacing and then saving/publishing has sometimes improved things for me. I look forward to what others suggest as maybe there is this killer app that helps with this process.

Hello all,
Curious to hear about your video and caption editing techniques within the below scenario.
I have recorded an hour long Zoom meeting that included a live CART provider. The Audio Transcript file (VTT) that was available for download from my zoom cloud captured the CART captions with timestamps. However, when I uploaded the VTT file to YouTube editor along with the video file, I found that the timestamps on the caption file were off by 4 or 5 seconds off of the video timestamps. I quickly discovered that trying to edit each individual timestamp using the YouTube editor for an hour long video is quite laborious. Then, I used an online program that allowed me to strip the timestamps and formatting from the VTT file and upload it as a plain text file to YouTube.
The good news here is that YouTube was able to auto sync the captions with the video, but I noticed that there are several moments in the video when there’s more than two lines of text on the screen. So, then I went in and started editing the actual text, which again, is a lot of effort for a one hour video.
Is there an easier way to get this done? I think the captions done by CART are accurate enough and would like to use them without having to pay for postproduction captioning since I’ve already paid for CART.
What am I missing? Thanks!
