I agree with Rob’s interpretation below. We use student workers to keep buildings and spaces open, as long as they have someone to contact if needed.

We allow students to keep offices open. We interpret the “supervision” requirement as someone designated as a supervisor and who is available to assist if needed. We do not believe that student workers need a supervisor in the immediate vicinity of them while they do their work.

We do. We are in an odd, not ideal situation where our multicultural center doesn’t have full time staff, so it is open using dedicated student workers we trust. We also routinely use them at the front desk for larger suites like advising as necessary. For all of these areas, there are on-site designated supervisors at every shift.

Hi Cheryl-
Not at LCC except for brief coverage (eg lunch break). I think there’s a Fin Aid regulation that requires work study students to be supervised while working so they probably shouldn’t work by themselves to keep an office open (anyone with more knowledge please fact check me!).
