FYI,
This was an audit of the State’s K-12 system but as you can imagine many of the k-12 partners and collaborators in the workforce development system were affected as well. If questions please give me a call.

Subject: Leading Practices for the State’s Secondary Career and Technical Education Programs

Many of Washington’s high school students are looking for good jobs in industries like robotics, carpentry and medical technology, which pay well and do not require a four-year college degree. They can start their path to those jobs by taking career and technical education (CTE) courses while in high school.

A performance audit of the state’s secondary CTE courses, released today, has recommendations for better aligning the courses offered in schools with high-wage, high-demand occupations – as well as other improvements. If Washington adopts leading practices in four key areas, the state could create more opportunities for students while closing the gap between our students’ skills and the needs of local employers.

You will find the full audit and other materials here<http://www.sao.wa.gov/state/Pages/PerformanceAudit.aspx>.
