[wactclc-alma] patron expiration dates to control due dates

We just changed our patron load last night to expire students at "end of quarter +1 day" (previously +7 days) which for us now expires them all on 12/9 this quarter.  This is how we control a "drop dead due date" for all items as we approach the end of the quarter.  However when I go to the Fulfillment Configuration Utility this morning and put in a current student and a regular book, it shows that the book would be due 12/13.  We have a 3 week loan period so the date makes sense but how is the system still checking out an item to a patron AFTER the patron's expiration date?  I must have misunderstood how expiration and due dates interact.  Or is there a delay in the configuration utility accurately showing the outcome when a variable is changed?
