[Wactclc-alma] importing diacritics correctly from OCLC

Hi all:

Happy Friday! We got a donations of some books that were translated from Japanese and when we imported the records from OCLC the diacritics didn’t come over into Alma correctly. The special letters (I’m guessing it’s IPA since it’s a phonetic translation of Japanese – not using actual Japanese characters – but I could be wrong) are showing up as diamonds with a question mark (eg: Nihon senryoshi).

Is there a setting I am missing in the import profile, or somewhere else in Alma, or maybe a setting in OCLC that we are missing to not get these characters to show up correctly? It’s also happening with the copyright symbol. The other funny thing I’m noticing in the records, is that some of the diacritics in the same record come over correctly, like this: 650#0$aNō plays, and some don’t, so it seems random.

Here’s an example of a record where it has diacritics that are showing up oddly but others that are correct (note that those are in the 650 Subject fields, as opposed to the 520 description field, so don’t know if that makes a difference): https://sbctc-skagit.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/permalink/01STATEWA_SKAGIT/1k7g980/alma991000711585702822

Thanks in advance for any insights!
