Melinda, hope you don’t mind. I saw your post to Alma-L and am cross-posting to our WACTCLC-Alma list.

Others on the list may also have ideas… but here are a couple I have.

Analysis via bib subject headings would be one thought. Just depends on how well curricular programs actually map to subject headings.

You mention course reserves already. That’s an obvious one for schools using course reserves, where materials are generally organized directly by target class or program.

The other thought I have is reverse engineering the analysis, based on usage patterns. In other words look at the titles being used frequently, and organize those by program or class. It might be easier to categorize that targeted group of materials, rather than everything in the catalog. You might then be able to use the subject headings or call number ranges from those in-use titles to broaden an analysis to materials with similar content that are not currently being used.

Hi All,
We are looking to map our library holdings (digital and physical) to support the individual departmental program review work within various disciplines on our campuses. Our goal is to better facilitate conversations with our curricular programs regarding our offerings and more clearly have discussions about their needs.
Examples of where we would like to start conversations with our Curricular Programs specific to collection:

  *   The library has {list} resources that support {curricular program}.

  *   Age of said resources
  *   General usage statistics of said resources
  *   Start a conversation about content gaps or aged titles.

Are any of you mapping your collections to programs or classes beyond course reserves?  If so, what methodology are you using? Any information is helpful – philosophical approach or specific details about how you are indicating programs or classes within records and reporting.

A couple of thoughts on approaches we’ve had to date:

Physical Items (options):
- There are options within the Bib record (local 9xx fields) can be used.
- Alma has reporting codes that could be used, but would be limited only to things that had a POL attached (if you are using Acquisitions).
- Are there other options you are using?

Electronic Items:

  *   We do not use local bibs for our individually purchased electronic resources, so any help would be appreciated. 😊
