[Wactclc-alma] Standard Hours - effective date range

Sally and all,

Good call out on calendar management, Sally. I should have mentioned it yesterday. Since your academic year is coming to a close, it's a good time to review the Alma calendar for accuracy and any needed updates.

Quick answer to Sally's question about extending the duration (in years) of standard opening hours:

To extend the Valid To date for standard opening hours, edit the record and select Save without making any changes. The Valid To date is automatically set to the current date + 3 years. The Valid From date is automatically set to the current date.

The above statement was taken from:

https://knowledge.exlibrisgroup.com/Alma/Product_Documentation/010Alma_Online_Help_(English)/050Administration/050Configuring_General_Alma_Functions/020Managing_Institutions_and_Libraries#Configuring_Institution.2FLibrary_Open_Hours

Note also that the calendar for the resource sharing library doesn't matter, unless your library makes use of the Resource Sharing Library for ILL work. (I'm not aware that anyone is currently doing so.)

One more note, it's easiest to manage the calendar at the institution, rather than the library, level. And those of you with a single library are likely already set up like that. If you have multiple libraries (Seattle, Pierce, Olympic, Skagit, Spokane...), you probably already have calendars managed at the library level, to account for scheduling differences.

Reply to thread if you have another questions about the calendar.

Subject: [Wactclc-alma] Standard Hours - effective date range

Here's a heads up...I don't remember this being discussed before.

For our Resource Sharing library, we came up against a valid date range for our standard hours, and we will have same problem in March 2021 with our main library if I don't make the fix ahead of time.

I didn't see a way to change the end-date of the range, so I added new records, and the range span of dates was automatically set. I guess there is a parameter somewhere for that, because for Resource Sharing, it was three years out from today, but the library's range is five years.

I hope this is useful information.
