Another possible streamlining approach would be to use prediction patterns.

Prediction patterns do require the use of Acquisitions, since prediction patterns happen via the order record.

With prediction patterns, Alma pre-creates expected issues beforehand, so that you can just open and save the predicted issue when it arrives.

Applying barcodes would still require intervention... slapping barcode on issue upon its receipt, and scanning the barcode into the item record.

Prediction patterning might be a better approach for higher value subscriptions, that you retain in the collection for several years. while on-the-fly item creation might be better for lower value subscriptions, that you clear off the shelves after just a year or two.

Hi everyone,

We're looking for ways to streamline our serials work as the number of issues we circ is much smaller than the number of issues we process.

I'm looking into the process for Creating Items while in Manage Patron Services, and it seems pretty straight forward!

Is anyone else doing this already? If so, how's that working for you?
