Right. I was thinking earlier about when that feature came out, as I felt it was after I left Puget Sound.

It’s possible that the institutions already live on Alma at the time the feature came out ended up with the job enabled, just because of how the new release rolled out.

So, Edmonds, for example, and Pierce I just checked, both have the job enabled. And both were in C1, and would have been live at the time of the feature introduction.

In any case, those who are ready to start purging stale letters off of patron accounts can simply open an SF case to ask that the job be enabled.

The ability to purge letters wasn't introduced until sometime during the first half of 2017.

Yes. As some may recall, there was an implementation form on which you indicated the jobs you would like scheduled.

That might be why some institutions already had their letter purge job enabled.

Note, even if the letter purge job is enabled, only the letters you have configured under General Configuration / Letter Retention will get purged, based on the number of days to keep you set for those letters.

That’s interesting – Peninsula’s letter purge job is enabled, too, and like George, I’m pretty sure we didn’t take action for that to happen. I suspect that was the default during implementation.

Amy,

I just took a look at Edmonds scheduled jobs. Their letter purge job is enabled. Yours is not (as you know).

Since customers cannot enable or disable scheduled jobs from our side, I’m guessing that Edmonds did in fact have that letter purge job enabled by Ex Libris, either at implementation, or later on.

So, you were right the first time. Go ahead and open a SF case to have ExL enable that job for you (afterwards, the job will run each Friday night).

I did all of the editing to the retention periods and activated the letters we want to purge in the table, I just cannot activate the actual purge job itself, it’s essentially grayed out for me as I showed in my screenshot.  Are you saying the job runs anyway, even if it is not listed as Active in the Monitor Jobs list?

Hi Amy,

I think that the User=No just means that you cannot control how often the job runs.  The job runs weekly and you cannot make it run nightly.

Dale set retention periods and then enabled the letters to be purged here at Edmonds and it seems to be working.  As long as you have enabled the Letter Retention table, then I think you should be deleting the attachments in patron records.
