[Wactclc-alma] Course Reading Lists -> Add Repository Citation

It's been my experience that Alma is really constructed to work for large libraries with lots of staff who have very specialized functions, and where books may have to travel between different departments, buildings, and through many hands before they end up somewhere. Course Reserves is one of those areas that seem to be really structured for large libraries.

The general idea seems to be that you'll have 1 person who will be responsible for creating a list of items that an instructor wants to have put on reserve for a specific course. Then you'll have other staff or student workers who are responsible for going into the stacks and retrieving the reserve items-along with all other other items that need to be retrieved for any reason (e.g. patron holds, re-cataloging, ILL, digitization, etc.). Once the reserve items have been retrieved from the shelves, then another staff person will take the item and change the temporary location and/or item policy code

Just adding a Repository Citation doesn't put something on reserve and isn't intended to put something on reserve. It's just the first step in a multi-step process. IIRC, adding a Repository Citation does place an item into the

Hi Lesley,

When I'm adding materials from the library collection to reserve, after putting them on the reading list, I usually go into the scan-in items/change item info and then do a temporary change to add it to the reserves location, have the call number changed to the course number (ie HIST 121 or whatever), change the item policy to match the limited check out now (ie 2 hour reserve), and whatever else needs to be changed. Make sure to select the reading list as well in this area.

Once I have that all set up I just scan everything I need to add to that reading list and I'm good to go.

I've attached my reserve procedures I've created to this email in case that's helpful.

Thanks,
Stephanie

Hi everyone!

I'm trying to help troubleshoot a course reserves issues, but honestly, I haven't worked much with Reading Lists.

When you Add Citation -> Add Repository Citation, should Alma automatically put that item into a temporary location of "Reserve"? That's the behavior our team is expecting.

Thanks for your help!
Lesley
