[Wactclc-alma] Authorities for Local Subject Headings in Alma

I would be interested in this, as well. We already use 690 fields for our local subject headings, but I can’t remember if we enabled local authority functionality for our institution.

Wade, how do I find out if I’ve done this already? I seem to remember something about local authorities in the many configuration worksheets we had to fill out during implementation, but I honestly couldn’t tell you what that was…

Thanks!

Elena

Subject: [Wactclc-alma] Authorities for Local Subject Headings in Alma

Hello all,

Our local subject headings are all tagged as 650's with a 4 in the second indicator position. ExLibris has recommended changing these local subject headings to 690 fields. I don't have too many of these so it would be easy to make the changes.

This also makes me think about creating authority records for local subject headings. Creating authority records for these headings would allow me to add "See" or "See Also" entries in the Authority record. According to the documentation that I have seen there is a note that states:

In order to use local authorities in Alma, ExLibris Support/your ExLibris Professional Services representative must enable local authority functionality for your institution.

Have any of you done this?

Wade, do I need to put in a support ticket to have this done or can you a request to have this done for all institutions? I assume from the ExLibris recommendation about tagging these headings that I would need to convert my 650's with the 4 in the second indicator positions to 690's.
