[Wactclc-alma] Add Physical Material Type

Hi Shellie and Nina,

A couple of years ago, IPEDS said not to include librettos in some of the counts.  With Voyager we created an item type of libretto which let me isolate those.  In Alma it is showing up as an item policy and I am trying to consolidate my item policies.  I think in this case I will leave the item policy as libretto and select book for the material type since there is no musical notation in the libretto.  However, that's kind of like lumping music recordings and spoken word recordings all under sound recordings.  To me they are very different.  Ah well, if wishes were horses .... Thanks, Shellie, for confirming what I had suspected, because we had an occasion where we had wanted to add a type, too. At least there is "other" at the bottom of the list.

Tammy, in your case, would Score work? That's the best we've been able to do in a similar situation.

Hi Tammy,

Alma's list of available material type codes is fixed.  You can enable/disable them and you can edit the description, but you can't add to the list.

I need to add a physical material type of Libretto to the Physical Material Type Code Table page (Configuration Menu > Resources > General > Physical Material Type Descriptions) but add is not an option.  Is there a way I can do this or does it require a support case?
