[Wactclc-alma] Scan in Items vs. Return Items for anonymizing patron history

Hi Kirsti,

That's the way I understand how our anonymization rules work. The information of last person who checked it out is retained until the next person checks it out and then returns it.

It's possible that the timing of the Anonymization job is affecting the outcome. Maybe?

Loans aren't anonymized until the daily anonymization job runs. So even if your anonymization rule is set to anonymize after 1 loan, the patron information shouldn't be disassociated from the loan data immediately on return. The disassociation takes place later in the day at whatever time your anonymization job runs, right?

And another question...

if someone uses the anonymization option "Number of loans to retain = 1" in your rule, does this mean that they'll always retain a record of the last person to have checked out the item?

Alma Help says:

For example, if a rule is set with Number of loans to retain = 3 and there are 3 loan history records for an item, they will not be anonymized. If there are 4 loan history records for the item then only the oldest one will be anonymized.

So theoretically, if Dale and George have a rule that includes the parameter "Number of loans to retain = 1" they should expect that patron information will stay associated with the loan (and the loan history will show up in the patron record) even after the item has been returned. The loan won't be anonymized until a new person checks out the item (and returns it?). Does this sound right?

Maybe this will make more sense in a few days after the turkey and mashed potatoes and pumpkin pie. :)

It will be ok!

Hi,

I followed up from the meeting today to see whether scan in items or return items anonymizes the patron history and removes the last patron who had it checked out.

Neither return items or Scan in Items does this. I checked who was the last person to have it in the fulfillment notes of the item record before each scan I did and the person's name never went away.

Not sure if this is helpful but the item record under, history/fulfillment shows the activity that's happened on the item in terms of who's had it last.

Here's what our anonymization rules look like:

Not sure if that's helpful but thought I'd share what was discovered and how our rules were set up. Not sure why the loans are getting anonymized after a shorter period of time.
