Jinny,

What Wade describes below is what happened to us.

We had this problem trying to import records from Connexion. Our imported records were "disappearing", although what actually happened was that they were being merged with the electronic record. We had chosen a non-serial Match Method of "ISBN." Since the ISBN was the same on both the physical and the e-record, they merged, with the e-record predominating. When we changed the Match Method to "001 to MMS_ID Match Method," the physical records imported so that both they and the electronic records showed up in the repository.

I don't know if that's what's going on for you folks, but if you want to see what match method you're using, the path is Administration > General Configuration > Configuration Menu> External Systems > Integration Profiles > (Choose the name of the profile you're using) > Actions > Edit > Actions tab > Non serial Match Method. (Easy, right? :))

Looks like that import profile is set to "overlay" a record when an 024 or 035 match is made.

Just a guess, but what is likely happening is that the record is matched, and the existing record in Alma is overlaid.

(I think what often happens is that electronic books end up with the ISBN of the physical book).

If that's the case, one option would be to edit the import profile and set it to, upon match, 'import new record'. Then, import just that record. And then change back the import profile.

Or, create a new import profile based on the existing one, and modify it to import new record upon match. And then use that new import profile whenever you run into cases like this.

Yes.  We have an electronic record already in Alma.  The system will not let us import a physical book record. So we have instead one record with physical and electronic holding.  The title is "Windows Azure programming patterns for startups."

2. We were trying to import it via our regular OCLC/Alma  import method.  The import profile is called "A Import OCLC records to Overlay brief Alma records."

By "add copy of book", do you mean adding a title (bibliographic) record for a title that already exists in Alma for an electronic record?

I am having trouble getting Alma to let me add a copy of book if there is an electronic record in system for the same book.  Is there a setting somewhere that we should be using?  Or does anyone have any suggestions? Today I just added a holding record for hard copy to electronic record but really don't like it, feels like I am doing it wrong.
