[Wactclc-alma] Issues - Items not checked in timely

Sally,

If you want to run the lost and overdue loans job at some time other than 16:00, just open a salesforce ticket and request a new time.

Regarding the missed returns, I'd suggest training desk staff to watch the screen after they scan in a barcode, to make sure that the barcode is accepted.

I assume that your barcode readers are already configured to automatically add a <Return> code after barcode scan. Otherwise, then it's likely that all returns would fail.

And one other thought (kind of an outside possibility, to be sure), especially if you have new work-study students at the desk... make sure they are scanning your barcode, and not a UPC barcode on the item.

Subject: [Wactclc-alma] Issues - Items not checked in timely

Hi all,

At circ, it seems that some reserve items get missed (Alma slowness?) and get shelved without getting checked in. Then when someone else checks it out, that's when it gets checked in from the first patron's loan. I don't know what screen prompts there are at this point (Voyager says "hey it's checked out to X) but anyway here's an example of what I am talking about...

Yesterday, a student checked something out at 2pm, returned it before 3, but it wasn't checked in. A lost item notice went out (fee+replacement cost) at 4pm. The item checked in right before it went out again when someone wanted it at 5pm.

I don't know how we'd identify which items were on time, whether they made it on the shelf or not, they could have been sitting for a while before the check-in scan. I don't know whether folks think they've been successful with scans or not.

Can we alter the 4pm timing of these letters?

Is anyone else dealing with such a problem?

Hurriedly,
-Sally

PS: Even though we have a bogus email address (DoNotReply) the patron replied. And I guess it went in to some broken email folder, because our IT people forwarded it to me.
