[Wactclc-alma] Issues - Items not checked in timely

We don’t charge overdue fines, so that’s not an issue for Highline. But not properly discharging items…hmmm how can we best catch that sooner rather than later? Maybe an Analytics thingy focused on the Reserve collection? Gerie

Sally,

Edmonds had a sonewhat related issue un that when circ was busy reserve items didin't always get checked-in in a timely manner. We added a 1 hour grace period to our reserve items, and that has helped a lot.

Hi all,

At circ, it seems that some reserve items get missed (Alma slowness?) and get shelved without getting checked in. Then when someone else checks it out, that’s when it gets checked in from the first patron’s loan. I don’t know what screen prompts there are at this point (Voyager says “hey it’s checked out to X) but anyway here’s an example of what I am talking about...

Yesterday, a student checked something out at 2pm, returned it before 3, but it wasn’t checked in. A lost item notice went out (fee+replacement cost) at 4pm. The item checked in right before it went out again when someone wanted it at 5pm.

I don’t know how we’d identify which items were on time, whether they made it on the shelf or not, they could have been sitting for a while before the check-in scan. I don’t know whether folks think they’ve been successful with scans or not.

Can we alter the 4pm timing of these letters?

Is anyone else dealing with such a problem?

Hurriedly,
-Sally

PS: Even though we have a bogus email address (DoNotReply) the patron replied. And I guess it went in to some broken email folder, because our IT people forwarded it to me.
