[LIBRARYDIR] [EXTERNAL] laptop checkout policies

Since our laptops are funded by the Student Tech fee, we’ve been told we cannot waive anything except administrative/processing fees. However, for theft/fire/extenuating circumstance/etc, our Foundation is usually able to present the student with a one-time Needs-Based award to cover the cost.

We ask for documentation such as a police report. However, any documentation would do - picture of a broken car window, insurance report, note from an instructor. We are working on a process to waive the fee for need based cases.

We would require a copy of a police report for the stolen item on file with our college & library.
Then we would loan again.

Hey all. Do any of you have “stolen/lost equipment” clauses in your laptop checkout policies? We have a student check out one of our laptops, and then the laptop was stolen. Our staff are reluctant to loan another laptop to the same student. Is this ethical? Can we deny access to a student who needs a laptop even if they had one of ours stolen? Any guidance would be appreciated!
