[LIBRARYDIR] Getting Laptops Returned

We do this at Skagit. There is a reminder (also friendly) and then after a set amount of days after the quarter, laptops and hotspots are turned off. We have an amazingly large number of laptops that have not been returned from before this program started. This is the first quarter where the majority of laptops that are currently checked out can be turned off. The ones that we did have the capability of turning off in the past, were often returned very quickly once they were turned off.

We're working with IT to get a loaner program up and running. Part of the plan is that IT says they can set up the laptops so that they "brick" when the check out period is up with a friendly message appearing on the screen saying that the loan period has expired and that they can renew by bringing the laptop back to the library. We haven't started the program yet, however, so I can't say how well it will work.

Hi, all.
I will be communicating with you only through June 30 as interim; a new A.D. begins July 1.
For now, our media librarian just informed me that at her ALMA-PRIMO meeting there was discussion about libraries around the state figuring out how best to get loaned laptops returned.
Does anyone have any comments on this. I meet with my boss this afternoon and need to speak to her about our strategy, especially since we have disbanded our program.
Thanks.
