We are no longer allowed to put a hold on their grades, registration or transcripts.  That worked REALLY WELL. Now the only option we have is to send them to collection but we take a LONG time to get there.  About 3 months of trying to track them down because it really is the last option we want to use.

New to us!  We recently found out our IT department can, in theory, shut down internet access.  We're hoping this works.  This will be the first quarter where we try it out.

I'm wondering how many libraries send students to collections for missing/lost materials/equipment, and what the parameters (length of time lost/missing, minimum cost threshold, etc.) for taking this step are? This feels like an extreme step, but we have experienced a lot of graphing calculator and Chromebook loss in the past few years.

Yes we allow students to renew items without proof of registration for the next quarter.  It is too much of a hassle to have them log into CTCLink and no easy way on our end that I'm aware of. We just take their word for it, but we are rogue librarians livin' on the edge...

Honestly, how many students would lie about that? Plus, if they don't return things they still get sent to collection, registered or not.

I'm wondering how your college handles renewing items at the end of the quarter? The main question is: do you allow students to renew items without proof that they've registered for the next quarter?
