HELPFUL REMINDERS AND TIPS:
COD DUPLICATE RESPONSE FILES: Hey, it happens, we know. When you've accidentally sent a file to COD more than once, and get a second response file, you NEVER want to load that file. Those files are usually 2kb in size, so it's easy to recognize that you should not load it.
Tip! If you see a list of files in your IAM folder that you brought in from EdConnect, look at the file size. Is one of the files a 2kb or smaller file? If so, this is your clue from COD that you have already sent that file to COD and you don't need to load the 2kb response file.

As a rule, do not load 2kb or smaller COD response files; these are duplicate response files and will only cause you headaches down the line.
Start the AY off right, and get your file management game in tip top shape! Start with putting those 2kb COD files in the recycle bin, or a separate folder that starts with DO NOT LOAD-they're no good!

Query Corner
________________________________

TIME TO START IDENTIFYING YOUR R2T4 STUDENTS: The CTC_FA_WITHDRAWN_F03_SVC_IND is to be run BEFORE grades are posted because the query is looking for classes that have an Enrollment Status Reason equal to 'Withdrawn' or an academic load equal to N in Term Activate a Student. This query will pull students who have a loaded ISIR, have a federal item type of Pell, PLUS, SEOG, STFS, STFU, TCH, IASA and/or have any item type listed in the state repayment set up table, and/or have the institutional item type. In addition, the disbursed amount for the selected item types is greater than zero, does not have an F03 and does not have a completed R2T4 or state repayment worksheet and has withdrawn or has drops.

Get Your Beauty Rest! So many days we wake up early and are dragging through the day. We reach for the caffeine and sugar to keep up through the day. Sound familiar? You might be making up for poor quality of sleep! According to varying sources, studies have shown that 7 to 8 hours of sleep a night is adequate for restorative processes in the body to bring you back to optimal functioning the next day. Within these 7 to 8 hours, we go through the stages of sleep:

  * Stage 1 - NREM 1 (non-rapid eye movement), transition stage of wakefulness and sleep
     * The brain, heartbeat, eye movement and breathing slow down
     * The body relaxes and muscles twitch
     * Brain is still very active
  *   Stage 2 - NREM 2, light sleep
     *   Muscles are completely relaxed
     * Blood pressure drops and breathing slows
     * Deepest sleep and dreams occur
     * You become less aware of your surroundings, body temperature drops, eye movement stops, breathing and heart rate become more regular
     * The brain prepares memory consolidation, where it gathers, processes and filters new memories acquired the previous day
  *   Stage 3 - NREM 3, deep sleep
     *   Muscles are completely relaxed
     * Blood pressure drops and breathing slows
     *   Deepest sleep occurs
     * Body starts physical repairs, getting enough sleep in this stage makes you feel refreshed the next day
     * Brain consolidates declarative memories - general knowledge, facts or statistics, personal experiences, and things you have learned the previous day
  * Stage 4 - Rapid Eye Movement (REM) sleep
     * Brain lights up with activity
     * Body is relaxed and immobilized (keeps us from acting out our dreams)
     * Breathing is fast and irregular
     *   Eyes move rapidly
     * We dream in this stage
     * REM Sleep is where emotions and emotional memories are processed and stored
     * Brain also uses this stage to cement information into memory, important for learning

Tips for a healthier sleep cycle:

  * Limit electronics before bed, try a "no electronics in the bedroom" for a few nights a week
  * Try to get at least half an hour of natural sunlight per day
  * Go to bed and wake up at roughly the same time each day
  * Get some exercise each day
  * Don't eat a heavy meal before bed, don't give the stomach hard work to do before bed
  * Avoid alcohol, don't give your body more things to do (liver, brain and blood repair) before bed
  * Keep your room cool and dark
  * Get adequate sleep. The longer you sleep, the more REM sleep you will get
