[BLC] BAS Concentrations

Cristie,

We have a few different programs with multiple concentrations but students have never been able to graduate with more than one concentration because, as you mentioned, they cannot get awarded the same degree twice. To my knowledge there is no workaround on this because it is all the same program code. One solution could be creating baccalaureate certificates that cover the classes in the other concentration.

We are just now starting the discussion and exploring the possibility of having "double majors" at our college and what this could look like since we do have so many students that are interested in getting two bachelor degrees or want to do both concentrations (what I envision double majoring might look like). Excited to see where that could go!

Hello all,

A question has come up on our campus and I'm curious if/how other schools have handled this situation. We offer a BAS in Business Management. Under that degree, students can choose:

  *   BAS in Business Management
  *   BAS in Business Management - Entrepreneurship Concentration
  *   BAS in Business Management - Marketing Concentration

I have several students that want to do both concentrations, but because they are under the same degree our Admissions Office is trying to determine if it's possible to award both. I had one student complete and apply for her degree. Then come back for the Marketing Concentration, but we were not able to award it to her because the main degree is the same and she can't earn two BAS in Business Management degrees from the same institution.

Then the next student decided not to apply for her degree until both concentrations were complete to get around that rule. However, it appears that the same issue is coming up. I envisioned her transcripts and diploma would say "BAS in Business Management with Concentrations in Entrepreneurship and Marketing". Thoughts/advice?
