Hello, SBCTC colleagues:
I am excited to announce that Dr. Felix Braffith will be joining SBCTC as the new Director of Equity, Diversity, and Inclusion within the Strategic Initiatives division.

Dr. Braffith brings a deep and sustained commitment to antiracism, inclusive excellence, staff development, and student-centered systems change, grounded in both lived experience and institutional leadership, particularly in Washington state’s higher education system. A former community college student who began developmental coursework at Pierce College, Dr. Braffith earned a doctorate from Washington State University, where he examined the lived experiences of first-generation college graduates of color across Washington. Over the past 20 years, he has advanced equity across Washington’s two- and four-year institutions through leadership roles in TRIO, MESA, various student success grant funded programs, and I-BEST. These efforts have enabled institutions to redesign student support services, expand culturally responsive teaching, and strengthen infrastructure to better serve students furthest from educational equity.

Most recently, he served in senior student affairs leadership at WSU Vancouver as the Assistant Vice Chancellor of Student Affairs and Equitable Learning, leading the development of culturally affirming student centers—including first-year learning communities and a career action center—and co-leading campus-wide professional and pedagogy development centering equity-minded practices.
Although his official first day will be August 1st, 2025, he will have limited availability until August 20th due to prior family obligations. A special thank you to MarcusAntonio Gunn for stepping graciously into the interim role, especially during an uncertain and chaotic time for this work.
