Subject: Leadership announcement from the State Board

The following message is sent on behalf of Martin Valadez, chair of the State Board
Dear trustees, presidents, and State Board staff,
I write today to inform you that Paul Francis will be transitioning out of his role as executive director of SBCTC and will be leaving the agency as of Friday, November 8, 2024. Paul has been an incredible voice and advocate for our students and colleges, always demonstrating an unwavering dedication to our system’s mission and building strong ties with business, industry, labor partners, and the state Legislature. Professionally and personally, Paul has dedicated himself to uplifting students, families, and communities through the power of higher education. Paul walks through this world with grace, compassion, and a commitment to social justice — qualities that shine through his work and relationships. The State Board thanks Paul for his many contributions to our mission, system, and agency and we wish him all the best in his next endeavors.
The State Board is in the process of selecting a short-term, acting executive director and will keep the system apprised of any future decisions.
