[Wsssc] As always a question re: Counselor roles as Faculty

Hello WSSSC,

I've been looking forward to today since Monday morning! So happy Friday!

Bellevue College is working towards having all student services return to campus mid quarter this term. The question is regarding counselor roles as "faculty." How can we pull them to do on the ground services as faculty through the LOA we have? As we discuss this with the academic side of the house, here are a few thoughts:


  *   Our current LOA for faculty is about teaching not counselor's main duties as counselors, specifically mental health counseling.
  *   My main concern is that an aspect of their role (mental health counseling) would surpass the expectation and NEED from students to have them on-campus.

So real question is, is there any discussion at the state or anywhere else on reviewing the "faculty" classification for mental health counselors?

I know its complicated, but their purpose it not to teach, it is to provide mental health counseling for our students. As I review national trends there is a clear decline in the courses that our counselors are teaching and many colleges are embedding them (the content) elsewhere. Thoughts?
