Neither, students work directly with Faculty and follow the student complaint process if they have a problem. This has never escalated to the VP level.

Hi Michele,

At Skagit, these route through the VPI since most are related to missing instructional class time.

Best,

Subject: [Wsssc] Student Absence for Reasons of Faith or Conscience

Good Afternoon Colleagues:
We are in the process of updating our process/protocols re: the Student Absence for Reasons of Faith or Conscience.

The question is: Does the VPSA or the VPI facilitate and approve the request at your institution?

The policy is below

Postsecondary educational institutions must develop policies to accommodate student absences to allow students to take holidays for reasons of faith or conscience or for organized activities conducted under the auspices of a religious denomination, church, or religious organization, so that students' grades are not adversely impacted by the absences.

Sincerely,

Dr. Michele Cruse
Interim Vice President of Student Affairs
