A 12-member cross-sector team of campus leaders has formed a Basic Needs Assessment Work Group that is developing a plan to gather state-level unmet basic needs data for postsecondary students (Overview and participation information<https://drive.google.com/file/d/1o7Pvm_rXAPxEb1sTUGHqaqvejq9LulY4/view?usp=sharing>).  We are grateful for the leadership of Dr. Brenda Ivelisse of Bellevue, Jennifer Manley of South Puget Sound (also in the Steering Team), and Brian Kneidl of Peninsula.  This effort is facilitated by WSAC and is receiving technical assistance from the Hope Center for College, Community and Justice through a Lumina grant.

The Work Group will determine:
o   What unmet basic needs data is a priority to drive state-level support of postsecondary basic needs including policies, programs and investment
o   How to collect that data across all postsecondary sectors, which will include development of a data collection tool.
o   How to analyze and share information gathered
o   Recommendations for implementation of the plan.

Timeline and progress:  In March and April, the Work Group is building consensus on data of value and the best strategy to collect data across the state.  In May the group will discuss a draft plan and data gathering tool, and will consider analysis and information-sharing preferences.  In June the work group will be preparing recommendations for implementation.

Request:  Please respond to this short 4 question survey<https://www.surveymonkey.com/r/YZ7JJ86>  by May 5th to assist the Work Group in better understanding the landscape of current data collection of unmet basic needs, and the ways the data has informed institutional planning, programming, etc. This information will guide the Work Group in its preparation of an effective process to gather state-level basic needs data that can drive improved state support for postsecondary basic needs.
