Just passing along some good news for your veterans from the American Council on Education (ACE). You may recall that last year veterans faced funding difficulties when their courses moved online because of the pandemic. That was fixed temporarily, but it appears that the flexibilities are about to be extended for another year.

Congress Moves to Extend Pandemic Assistance for Veterans Education Benefits

Last spring, Congress passed two pieces of legislation (S. 3503<https://elink.clickdimensions.com/c/6/?T=ODgzMTU2MzQ%3AMDItYjIwMjY5LTExNThkNWVmMjY5NDQyYmU5Y2Q2NWNlYWFlNzY2ZmM2%3AcHJlc2lkZW50QG53Y2N1Lm9yZw%3AY29udGFjdC0wMzU1N2U3NzdmYWFlYTExODEyNjAwNTA1Njg2NmZiMS0zMGYzM2I4ZjZjMjQ0ZGU3YTQ5MTNjY2JlMjU4YWQyMg%3AZmFsc2U%3ANg%3A%3AaHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuY29uZ3Jlc3MuZ292L2JpbGwvMTE2dGgtY29uZ3Jlc3Mvc2VuYXRlLWJpbGwvMzUwMz9fY2xkZWU9Y0hKbGMybGtaVzUwUUc1M1kyTjFMbTl5WnclM2QlM2QmcmVjaXBpZW50aWQ9Y29udGFjdC0wMzU1N2U3NzdmYWFlYTExODEyNjAwNTA1Njg2NmZiMS0zMGYzM2I4ZjZjMjQ0ZGU3YTQ5MTNjY2JlMjU4YWQyMiZ1dG1fc291cmNlPUNsaWNrRGltZW5zaW9ucyZ1dG1fbWVkaXVtPWVtYWlsJnV0bV9jYW1wYWlnbj1QMlAlMjAyMDIwJmVzaWQ9NjkyZmVmN2UtMzVmZi1lYTExLTgxMmQtMDA1MDU2ODY2ZmIx&K=kH6RJ91F7t75MqPN7AENiQ> and H.R. 6322<https://elink.clickdimensions.com/c/6/?T=ODgzMTU2MzQ%3AMDItYjIwMjY5LTExNThkNWVmMjY5NDQyYmU5Y2Q2NWNlYWFlNzY2ZmM2%3AcHJlc2lkZW50QG53Y2N1Lm9yZw%3AY29udGFjdC0wMzU1N2U3NzdmYWFlYTExODEyNjAwNTA1Njg2NmZiMS0zMGYzM2I4ZjZjMjQ0ZGU3YTQ5MTNjY2JlMjU4YWQyMg%3AZmFsc2U%3ANw%3A%3AaHR0cHM6Ly93d3cuY29uZ3Jlc3MuZ292L2JpbGwvMTE2dGgtY29uZ3Jlc3MvaG91c2UtYmlsbC82MzIyP19jbGRlZT1jSEpsYzJsa1pXNTBRRzUzWTJOMUxtOXladyUzZCUzZCZyZWNpcGllbnRpZD1jb250YWN0LTAzNTU3ZTc3N2ZhYWVhMTE4MTI2MDA1MDU2ODY2ZmIxLTMwZjMzYjhmNmMyNDRkZTdhNDkxM2NjYmUyNThhZDIyJnV0bV9zb3VyY2U9Q2xpY2tEaW1lbnNpb25zJnV0bV9tZWRpdW09ZW1haWwmdXRtX2NhbXBhaWduPVAyUCUyMDIwMjAmZXNpZD02OTJmZWY3ZS0zNWZmLWVhMTEtODEyZC0wMDUwNTY4NjZmYjE&K=zOM_DWxDsTr6DBI-6CdaTA>) designed to help ensure that veteran education benefits would not be disrupted because of COVID-19. Among the provisions, these bills provided that coursework converted from in-person to online would continue to be eligible for Veterans Affairs tuition benefits and that housing benefits would not decrease as a result of this conversion.

The flexibility provided by these bills is set to expire Dec. 21 of this year. Both the House and Senate veterans' affairs committees are working to extend these provisions for an additional year, until December 2021. We are pleased to report that this extension is included in the FY 2021 continuing resolution the House approved on Wednesday and which the Senate is expected to pass next week.
