Hi all, we have a re-entry navigator who works in a position funded by the Department of Corrections but who reports through our chain of command, and she asked me yesterday about what resources at the state level are marshaled in service to the population she serves; i.e., recently or currently incarcerated individuals that have been or are about to be released back into the general public and that want to continue their education. Her point was that we have councils for students with disabilities, multicultural students, veterans, but wondered if there was anything comparable that addresses the barriers and needs faced by this particular (and rather large) population of potential students. I had to confess that apart from the work done through Basic Ed at SBCTC by folks like Pat Seibert-Love, I was not aware of any devoted group or resource within the WACTC system. I fear I may just be uneducated on this point however, so dear colleagues, what don't I know on this score that I should know?
