Education Department sends final Title IX rule to White House for approval

The Education Department this week sent the Trump administration’s final Title IX rule governing campus sexual assault to the White House Office of Management and Budget for approval.

The procedural move is a key step before the policy can be finalized and made public.

OMB’s regulatory division received the department’s draft of the final Title IX rule on Monday, according to its website.

The Office of Information and Regulatory Affairs has already scheduled at least two meetings with outside groups next week about the proposal: the Pennsylvania attorney general’s office and Legal Momentum, a women’s advocacy group.

The proposed regulations, which were released by Education Secretary Betsy DeVos last year, were aimed at correcting what many conservatives believe were Obama-era polices that went too far and trampled on the due process rights of accused students. Democrats have sought to fight the proposed rules.
