Subject: Fw: Faculty Grant: $10k to Incorporate Accessibility into Computer Science, Web Design Courses

Could you all pass this along to the Workforce deans, ATC, and IC? Thanks!

Please pass along to any faculty in the Washington State Community & Technical College system who may be interested:

$10,000 to Incorporate Accessibility into Computer Science, Web Design Courses

Teach Access is award grants of $5,000 to full-time, part-time, or adjunct faculty in computer science, design, user experience research, human-computer interaction. If a faculty member from our system is awarded a grant, SBCTC will match the grant amount, making it $10,000.

Teach Access Faculty Grants

Grants will help infuse accessibility principles into existing technology and design courses.

Teach Access, a collaboration of top tech sector companies, universities and disability advocacy organizations, are awarding grants to faculty at institutions of higher education (community colleges and four-year universities) to develop modules, presentations, exercises, or curriculum enhancements or changes that introduce the Fundamental Concepts and Skills<http://teachaccess.org/wp-content/uploads/2018/03/Teaching-Accessibility-Fundamental-Skills-and-Concepts.pdf> of accessible design and development into existing courses.

The grants are not intended to trigger the development of completely new courses but rather innovative ways of incorporating accessibility fundamentals into existing courses. Grant recipients will be required to share their course updates among their institutional colleagues as well as publicly on the Teach Access web site.

Grants will be made to full-time, part-time, or adjunct faculty in computer science, design, user experience research, human-computer interaction and related fields at institutions in the U.S. These grants of $5,000 each will be available for use as early as the summer of 2018, for courses taught during the 2018-2019 school year. Proposals will be evaluated and selected by a committee of Teach Access members.

The online application is available here<http://teachaccess.org/spring-2018-faculty-grant-application-form> and is due by June 4 at 5pm ET.

For further information, check the Teach Access website<http://teachaccess.org/facultygrants/> or write to FacultyGrants at teachaccess.org<mailto:FacultyGrants at teachaccess.org>

SBCTC Grant Matching

For any faculty member from the WA CTC system who receives one of these awards, SBCTC will match the granted amount. This additional grant amount is to help the faculty cover the cost of sharing their curriculum and findings with others in their field (conference registration/travel, time spent sharing via webinars, etc.).

Should you accept a supplementary matching grant from the SBCTC, the primary grant deliverables must be released under a Creative Commons Attribution license<https://creativecommons.org/licenses/by/4.0/> (CC BY), and may be housed in a statewide resource repository. CC BY is a type of open license that permits free access and distribution of the materials to the public. For more information, please consult with SBCTC Copyright & Open Licensing Policy.
