Joe,
I would also like to add my concern to that of Luca and Bill. This disproportionately negatively impacts schools with larger RS populations such as BC.

Best regards,

Ata

I want to echo Luca's appreciation for the work that goes into serving on these state advisory committees. It is a lot of time and effort.

I also want to echo the concerns about the proposal to exclude RS students from the SAI calculation. The enrollment of RS students is a legislative mandate, they are not students that we selectively recruit and admit. SAI funding is 5% of our total allocation and there is discussion of moving that to a higher percentage. It seems this proposal would disadvantage colleges with higher RS populations from competing for resources based on the demographics of their districts. The proposal touches on the fact that RS students have high success rates, which is true. I appreciate a focus on student groups that need additional support, but not the exclusion of any populations that are core to our mission.

Subject: [EXTERNAL] Re: [Wsssc] SAI Advisory Group Update
Good Evening All,

Thank you, Joe. Many questions and thank you to Jose, Damon, and Alison for your perspective and insight into this. Of concern and proposed changes that have been made recently is the elimination of Running Start students out of the SAI model. If this accurate, this would have a significant impact on all colleges, particularly with larger Running Start student populations. While Running Start students are generally a high achieving student population and white, were considerations given to exploring Running Start students with multiple intersections of identity? And, if we are operating on principles that we are considering students who are state funded, who accounts for RS students who aren't state funded and are there additional populations to consider that we may be missing?

My understanding from my colleagues is that this will be presented to WACTC next week. Joe, is that accurate?

Thank you again for your insight and feedback.

Sincerely,

Luca
