JOB SUMMARY
LWTech's Student Development Services is searching for a culturally responsive and collaborative licensed mental health professional to provide short-term mental health counseling and crisis intervention to students from a wide variety of ages, educational experiences and goals, racial, cultural, and ethnic backgrounds, and socioeconomic status'. The Counselor will manage LWTech's CARE team (Campus Assessment, Response, and Evaluation) which involves leading CARE Team meetings, determining appropriate response and referral to CARE reports for students using a case managed approach to referred students, and providing timely intervention to students in crisis. This is a represented faculty position that works under general and infrequent supervision and reports to the Director of Student Development. This is an Annual Renewable with the possibility of converting to Tenure Track position.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

Mental Health Counseling
*        Provide culturally responsive short-term individual and group counseling to enrolled LWTech students
*        Establish positive, trusting rapport with students
*        Provide crisis counseling and assessment for students in distress
*        Follow all safety protocols and maintain client confidentiality
*        Maintain case notes and counseling files
*        Serve as campus resource to employees and students in areas of counseling, learning styles, and conflict resolution
*        Refer students to outside specialists or agencies when necessary
*        Develop group counseling opportunities and workshops that reflect the needs and identities of LWTech students in partnership with Student Programs department
*        Design learning experiences in areas related to student success and retention, such as test anxiety and stress management through group and individual instruction including classroom presentations as requested
*        Manage Legend (Starfish student success software) Behavioral Concern flags raised and follow up on all Legend mental health counseling referrals
*        Develop and maintain community resources for student referral
*        Maintain knowledge of and make effective referrals to campus resources, most commonly Disability Support Services, TRIO, Academic Advising, and Financial Aid

Committee Leadership
*        Manage the CARE team including: tracking students via Maxient software; following up with staff, faculty, and students who report concerns; co-lead weekly CARE meetings; provide a case management approach to following up with referred students; and developing training for staff, faculty, and student leaders
*        Reply in a timely and thorough manner to CARE reports and student emails
*        Lead Student Wellness Advisory Committee, which focuses on suicide prevention, mental health, and wellness

Administrative
*        Maintain counseling webpage and resources
*        Manage counseling appointment request inquiries and scheduling
*        Take part in professional staff activities and committee activities such as accreditation and tenure
*        Take part in professional development activities in field of expertise and demonstrate current knowledge and skills
*        May provide supervision to student interns
*        Participate in college, division, and department meetings, committees, and professional development opportunities
*        Other duties as assigned

Qualifications
Education and License:
*        Master's degree in Counseling, Social Work, or directly related field; at least 6 months of directly related experience which may include internship and/or practicum. Certification/Licensure in Washington State as LICSW, LMHC, LMFT, or equivalent level, OR licensed out of state and eligible for WA licensure. Associate level not accepted
Technology Proficiency:
*        Microsoft Office for email, scheduling and calendar management, creation and editing of documents, presentations, and spreadsheets
*        Zoom, Teams, or other video conferencing software to provide virtual/remote services
*        Previous success learning new computer software programs and platforms
Counseling Skills:
*        Demonstrated commitment to cultural humility and culturally responsive counseling using a brief approach
*        Knowledge and understanding of clinical social work and/or mental health counseling principles, methods, procedures, and standards
*        Ability to maintain emotional stability to cope with human suffering, emergencies, and other stresses
*        Knowledge of community mental health resources
*        Ability to maintain confidentiality, think critically, and exercise independent judgement as the sole mental health provider at the institution
Leadership & Communication:
*        Ability to communicate with compassion and empathy
*        Strong interpersonal, written, oral, and listening communication skills with ability to build rapport quickly
*        Strong ability to manage time and prioritize tasks, including quick email  responses
*        Ability to develop and present educational programs and/or workshops
*        Detail oriented
Preferred Qualifications
*        Work experience in a college or educational setting
*        Qualified to provide clinical supervision to masters leveling counseling interns

Pay, Benefits & Work Schedule
Compensation
Salary will start at the faculty level for Master's Degree, Step C ($68,500) on faculty schedule. Salary is for an academic year (173 days) and may be adjusted according to the faculty bargained agreement. Final placement on the faculty salary schedule is based on an individual assessment of education and experience; salary is negotiable depending upon qualifications.  Additionally, this position will have a summer quarter contract. This is a full-time, Annual Renewable position with the possibility to convert to Tenure Track.

Hours:
The Student Development Services office hours are typically Monday through Friday between 7:30 am to 4:30 pm, with two days per week of evening services. Evening counseling appointments expected, with flexibility on days and hours as needed.
