[Wactclc-primo] Ebsco transitioning to new OpenURL Connection User Interface

Thanks for the confirmation, Lesley.

I'm pretty sure this will be the case for everyone, as I'm fairly certain that everyone uses IP authentication with Ebsco.

Thanks, Wade. I just tested an Academic Search Complete, CINAHL, and Business Source Complete article from Primo. It seems to take a few seconds to load (see screenshot below), but then eventually connects.

[Title: Open URL Connection - Description: EBSCO Open URL Connection]

I'm thinking Pierce might wait on making the change just because there are so many other things that need our attention at the beginning of the quarter, and this does appear to be working. (Knock on wood!)

Note also that if you use IP authentication for your Ebsco account (which may be all of you), adding your Ebsco customer ID to the service is not technically necessary, since Ebsco is looking at your IP address, not your customer ID.

What authentication methods are available for accessing EBSCO interfaces?<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=https%3a%2f%2fconnect.ebsco.com%2fs%2farticle%2fWhat-authentication-methods-are-available-for-accessing-EBSCO-interfaces%3flanguage%3den_US&c=E,1,TKVKEYssxWpKTYf9XG9TsTLcqy1cLxIcjQGNSK8aKyzRIvP_dN36ZHILpR2On6H2No90cVb3hmieBtUQVVtOK2DhhSjdkMs1_9fZUjGqkvmftw,,&typo=1>

But it's not a bad idea to add the customer ID anyway, just for future use, in case you change your Ebsco setup.

As previously announced by Ebsco, Ebsco is changing its OpenURL Connection interface:

New OpenURL Connection User Interface - Now Available (ebsco.com)<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=https%3a%2f%2fconnect.ebsco.com%2fs%2farticle%2fNew-OpenURL-Connection-User-Interface-Now-Available%3flanguage%3den_US&c=E,1,imrm8QlXKD6mPwmIfSMhnD9H0kOoYfnlkO0aXP8oZbdrVUZ9Btx50pj8Cmbmbgs3tUg8wvu6E2XqMrUtKOi654QyLB51WkbU4VeciaKY&typo=1>

ExLibris is making corresponding changes to its parsers for Ebsco collections, as the new OpenURL connection is implemented on the Ebsco side.

To see when the parser was updated, or will be updated, for specific Ebsco collections, you can check here:

Transition to EBSCOhost New Target Parser - December 2021 - Ex Libris Knowledge Center (exlibrisgroup.com)<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=https%3a%2f%2fknowledge.exlibrisgroup.com%2fAlma%2fContent_Corner%2fKnowledge_Articles%2fTransition_to_EBSCOhost_New_Target_Parser_-_December_2021&c=E,1,wWc9BxPVi9TE4yhjOEfhc959SYvEhq-G4tcYiyxnMMvxwIFa4KV_zZwYs4ALeXcr6P1JAli96MSsiEK0RW2YunbN08DXZTWKilOEdqbT&typo=1>

Based on the current schedule, ExLibris will have all collections updated by Dec 26.

The change only appears to impact journal collections, and not ebook collections, probably because the ebook links do not go through Ebsco's link resolver.

To ensure that your links from article citations in Primo VE resolve to your Ebsco content, you need to make sure that you add your Ebsco Customer ID to the service configuration in Alma for each of your Ebsco collections. You add your customer id in the parameters section of the linking tab when editing a service (see Modifyng an Electronic Service<https://linkprotect.cudasvc.com/url?a=https%3a%2f%2fknowledge.exlibrisgroup.com%2fAlma%2fProduct_Documentation%2f010Alma_Online_Help_%28English%29%2fElectronic_Resource_Management%2f030_Working_with_Local_Electronic_Resources%2f015Managing_Electronic_Resources&c=E,1,5rAkH_PaWe2CqCBLkE7CXJ4RiKgAlBAFT1ipIp8Q3oOwmryxr7vJLpesKWNOnFdLsxVc7NANYCqBUzWw28XYyG8PE62dQIY5E3qwdn7PTmG2cbdbpA,,&typo=1>)

In addition, if you choose to implement an OPID on your Ebsco account, you would need to include your OPID as well. (I believe that OPIDs only apply to multiple institutions that share a single Ebsco customer ID. )
