If your Citation Style table in Alma includes a row with code apa, then your APA style in Primo VE is 7th edition. The CSL project group did not differentiate the edition in either the code or the <title-short> element which makes it confusing (and also causes an unrelated problem in RefWorks).

If you want to have 6th edition available in Primo VE, your table has to have a row with the code apa-6th-edition
Whether or not the 7th edition formatting in the CSL code matches the actual guidelines, I'm not the best person to ask.

Hi All,
We are testing the Primo VE production site at the moment. Could I please confirm with someone that are using Primo VE, APA 7 are not available for Primo VE yet? I can't find APA 7 in the CSL Style Repository on GitHub: https://github.com/citation-style-language/styles.<https://github.com/citation-style-language/styles>
Also our faculty librarians mentioned to me that, when using the APA 6 available on our Primo VE Prod to generate citation, the full citation doesn't seem correctly apply the APA 6 style. Anyone using Primo VE see the same at your end?

The Description fields in the mapping tables are not (usually) the ones which are displayed to users, but are for your reference.
You need the Front End Citation Labels code table for your label fix in UI.

The Mapping Table you shared is very helpful, and it worked for us after ours was updated in BO (attached below). However, in PRIMO, the display picked Source Type apa for APA 7th ed, rather than Description (also attached). Do you have any suggestion on how to fix the issue? Thank you, Qian

Oddly enough, we are on Primo BO and it appears as if our APA is still on 6? The phrase "now supported" makes me think we have to update it?

There was an issue with this for APA 7th for BO, where it hadn't been picked up for the February 2020 release, even though there were github version changes in late 2019.
I reported this, along with other sites, after testing and seeing that there was still a Place of Publication, as a key difference between the styles.
It was fixed in the May 2020 release for BO at least (not sure on VE), hence that bit in the Resolved Issues section, even though it's worded as if it wasn't available before, with "now supported".

We are on Primo VE. Based on what I have read in this thread, should we all relabel the citation style with code = "apa" to have the description APA (7th Edition)?
I have not been in the weeds of citation styles since grad school, but if folks in the know are confirming that the style sheet on GitHub is correctly applying the formatting dictated by the 7th edition, I would definitely want to make sure that our description matches the style that is being applied.
I was also a little surprised to see that this update made it into the release notes for Primo but not Primo VE. How do we confirm that Primo VE has downloaded the most recent styles from GitHub. The documentation indicates that Primo VE downloads "new" styles from the repository before each release, but does it download the entire set. If the code label has not changed, how do we confirm that the updated stylesheet was loaded?
Bear with me if these are stupid questions. I am just very confused that these OTB styles have not been updated by Ex Libris in our configuration.

We're on Primo VE. When we were in discussions here on updating to APA 7th over the summer, someone pointed out that our "apa" (apa.csl file on GitHub) option was already generating citations per the 7th edition. I see the the <title> tag in the code was updated from "6th" to "7th" on or around January 1st.
We have some faculty moving slowly to the 7th edition, so we added another citation entry for "apa-6th-edition" (apa-6th-edition.csl file). We haven't heard any complaints about both options being offered.

We were told the same thing, Denyse, when we asked about it July. Apparently, it was part of the May release. We were told, "Yes, for Primo VE when there is a new edition of the citation then it will automatically be in your Primo VE. However, the labels are not updated so after the changes has been implemented the labels would need to be updated."

I asked that question in July about our Primo VE instance and received this answer:
"I believe that the 7th citation is already been applied to your environment. However the label has not been updated. You can update the label by navigating to Configuration Menu > Discovery > Other > Citations Styles to update the label to the 7th edition."
