[Wactclc-primo] HTTP 400 error when opening a full record in a new tab

Good job, Dan. I see you got a better answer from Blake over on Primo-L ☺

If / when you open a ticket on this one, please cc: me on it. I’ll be interested to see how ExL responds.

The fact that the URL, at least in some cases, doesn’t get encoded correctly makes me curious about the use-cases they design those brief results links for.

This is more of a guess, but it may have to do with Primo and Primo VE being an SPA (single page application).

When you just left-click on a title link, for example, you get the detailed view in an overlay, rather than a new or different page.

I’m certainly no expert on SPA, but I believe when in an SPA application, you remain in the context of a single page until you leave the web site.

Opening a link from an SPA into a new tab might introduce conditions that the application sometimes doesn’t handle well.

Kind of like how Alma doesn’t play well with the generic browser back button, because using the back button can break the context of the data Alma was dealing with.

Just FYI, lots of web sites use the SPA design these days, like:

Gmail
Google Maps
Facebook
Twitter
Google Drive

Dan,

In Chrome Version 78.0.3904.87 (Official Build) (64-bit), I was able to search for a book in our Primo, right-click on the title in the brief display, and successfully open the full display in a new tab.

I then went to your Primo, searched for "Steps to small business start-up", right-clicked on the brief display, and successfully opened the full display in a new tab.

The same thing worked in Firefox 70.0.1 (64-bit)

It will be ok!

Hi Dan,

I just tried replicating that in our Primo, and didn’t get the error. I tried Chrome and IE.

Interesting!

Hey all,

Has anyone seen HTTP 400 errors in new tabs when attempting to open a full record in a new tab? Specifically with right clicking on the brief record title and selecting to open the link in a new tab.

Here's a sample record where this is occurring: https://sbctc-edcc.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/discovery/fulldisplay?docid=alma991667080602809&context=L&vid=01STATEWA_EDCC:EDMONDS&lang=en&search_scope=MyInst_and_CI&adaptor=Local%20Search%20Engine&tab=Everything&query=any,contains,franchis*&facet=searchcreationdate,include,2012|,|2019&facet=rtype,include,books&offset=0<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Flinkprotect.cudasvc.com%2Furl%3Fa%3Dhttps%253a%252f%252fsbctc-edcc.primo.exlibrisgroup.com%252fdiscovery%252ffulldisplay%253fdocid%253dalma991667080602809%2526context%253dL%2526vid%253d01STATEWA_EDCC%253aEDMONDS%2526lang%253den%2526search_scope%253dMyInst_and_CI%2526adaptor%253dLocal%252520Search%252520Engine%2526tab%253dEverything%2526query%253dany%252ccontains%252cfranchis%252a%2526facet%253dsearchcreationdate%252cinclude%252c2012%257c%252c%257c2019%2526facet%253drtype%252cinclude%252cbooks%2526offset%253d0%26c%3DE%2C1%2CsmUJ3wxaOiwY6NYZiaMuGLbvFSlgdDqVda5vVltE01xKUpEbKG9dQFfo6KnbtgBOd-RAWdvq6U4HF1CuIQRamsg_yn7wE36uqtFOQsLYt-GvFnzqiGzHUA%2C%2C%26typo%3D1&data=02%7C01%7C%7C470490cdfdcd43fc359108d763db0cb4%7C02d8ff38d7114e31a9156cb5cff788df%7C0%7C0%7C637087664776344010&sdata=SIt3aklzgOZxfHMF1Ax9HC8Qmbpq6g75fQNPxd8M5Tc%3D&reserved=0>. Even trying to copy/paste this link into a new tab still shows a 400 error. Switching to another browser replicates it too.

If I remove the query attributes (&query on), the link works: https://sbctc-edcc.primo.exlibrisgroup.com/discovery/fulldisplay?docid=alma991667080602809&context=L&vid=01STATEWA_EDCC:EDMONDS&lang=en&search_scope=MyInst_and_CI&adaptor=Local%20Search%20Engine&tab=Everything<https://nam04.safelinks.protection.outlook.com/?url=https%3A%2F%2Flinkprotect.cudasvc.com%2Furl%3Fa%3Dhttps%253a%252f%252fsbctc-edcc.primo.exlibrisgroup.com%252fdiscovery%252ffulldisplay%253fdocid%253dalma991667080602809%2526context%253dL%2526vid%253d01STATEWA_EDCC%253aEDMONDS%2526lang%253den%2526search_scope%253dMyInst_and_CI%2526adaptor%253dLocal%252520Search%252520Engine%2526tab%253dEverything%26c%3DE%2C1%2CjRU72S2GmXrHFpAi-yFw34vESH1J4qJuLNfQ1NysEfVXcD1vhU1aK97fVSfLa4JSXv7GxE5zUK9ad13rGYJ3cGF0pE1SYLKfy2rNBbby%26typo%3D1&data=02%7C01%7C%7C470490cdfdcd43fc359108d763db0cb4%7C02d8ff38d7114e31a9156cb5cff788df%7C0%7C0%7C637087664776354289&sdata=pljY5II1cU%2FR5DKikPqFKrr%2BvDpRoD8SJ7MlMrqg8Sk%3D&reserved=0>. So presumably this has something to do with recreating the search result list as part of loading the record in a new tab.

Anyone else experience this?
