As a follow-on response to the question about Primo VE advantages...

Another one is that Primo VE updates will be monthly, in line with Alma releases. This means potentially faster turnaround and features and fixes.

In addition, looking at the Primo VE June release notes (below), some of these updates are looking useful (like 'book chapter' vs 'book' facet for PCI content).

And some of these updates may be Primo VE-specific.

As with most kinds of software developments on platforms like this, as new iterations of a product (like Primo VE) gain momentum within the user base, the vendor will begin to focus more on developing for the newer platform.

Dear Primo VE Users,

We are pleased to share the highlights of the June 2018 Primo VE release, which is released in sync with the Alma monthly release cycle. The release was made available on the sandbox with the Alma release on May 20 and will be followed by production on June 3, the 1st Sunday of the month.

Primo VE Release Highlights
Primo VE Search REST API
The Primo REST API Suite provides library developers to access search capabilities and enriched results as used by new Primo interface. The first API for Primo VE in the suite is the Primo Search API, which allows you to search Primo using the REST API and returns search results metadata and elements such as highlights, facets and more.
OpenURL Debug Tool
A new tool for analyzing the context services that are offered by the OpenURL Link Resolver, enabling the library staff to perform basic troubleshooting, understand and debug the link resolver services.
New Book Chapters Facet
Currently in Primo Central Index, records of type 'Book Chapter' have the value 'Books' in the resource type facet. As part of the June release we will be splitting the current facet value 'Books' into two separate resource type facet values: 'Books' and 'Book Chapters'.
Support Discovery of Alma CNMARC Records
Primo VE now supports discovery for records that are cataloged in Alma in CNMARC format as it does for records catalogued in MARC21, UNIMARC, KORMARC, and Dublin Core. Records cataloged in CNMARC will be indexed for searching and/or displayed in Primo VE without any additional configuration, data loading or indexing required.
