Simplifying User Sign In and User Area Menu


Dear Colleague,

There are several enhancements coming in the August release for Primo and Primo VE users, originating from feedback and ideas submitted by the Primo community.

We would like to highlight one of the more notable UX enhancements for libraries using the new Primo user interface - simplifying user sign in and the user area menu. What are the changes in the new sign in and user area menu?

A guest user in Primo will see the "Sign in" button as a separate option. Just one click on that button allows the user to log in.

If a user is not signed in, clicking on the user area menu dropdown link opens the following menu:

Once the user is signed in, the user name will be displayed next to the dropdown option for the user area menu:

When and how is it being rolled out?

The new sign in and user area menu will be released out of the box for both Primo and Primo VE on August release starting rollout on July 22, 2018, available first in the Sandbox.

The new sign in and user area will become the default option in August release and we hope you'll begin to use it. Though, you can continue to use your existing user menu by following the instructions noted below until you are ready to transition to the new, default user menu option.

What are the impacts on existing customization to user area menu?

Since the new sign in and user area will become the default option in August release it may impact any existing user area menu customizations you may have.

We recommend testing in your Sandbox and make any necessary adjustments. If you require more time to test, you have the option to maintain with your existing user area menu as noted below.

How to maintain your existing user area menu?

If you decide to remain with exiting user area menu prior to the August release, to get more time to adjust to the new one, just add to your local customization package the following lines:

prm-user-area{
    display:block!important;
}
prm-user-area-expandable{
    display:none!important
}

This change will force the exiting user area to be displayed. The above lines can be adjusted any time, even prior to the August release.

Please note that our preference is to support only one user area option in the future and provide that support to the newest format, especially since it originated from community feedback.

Why is the language option displayed differently in signed in user area menu vs guest user area menu?

Since it's more common for a guest user to look for a way to change their language, this language option should be at the top of the guest menu. For users that have signed-in, languages are included as part of their settings.

Is there a way to configure or customize the links in the user area menu?

Currently the links in the user area are fixed, though based on feedback from community we hope to supplement with additional options.
