We just tested this out successfully this morning.  I had our I.T. (who manages our EZProxy files) add a userame:password combo to the EZproxy users.txt file and we now have a non-Active Directory login we can also use to access our databases.  This is useful not only for the QuestionPoint librarians but also for the database vendors and Ex Libris when they need to help troubleshoot database authentication issues.

Meanwhile, a few follow-up points from this morning's discussions:


1.       "Personalize" option in Primo

As we briefly discussed, a "personalize" option exists in your Primo interface (if the option is not disabled in the PBO) that allows users to select from a list of disciplines / subject areas.

Any discipline options a user selects will adjust the ranking algorithm for Primo Central Results *only*. Only Primo Central results will be rank-adjusted by the selections, but not other results. (Which makes sense, since in your records in Alma, you aren't adding metadata about disciplines to the records.)

If a user selects some disciplines while they are logged into Primo, those settings will be remembered for the next time the user logs into Primo.

2.       The eventual removal of passwords on internal accounts in Alma

As we also discussed, Ex Libris has been making plans to drop support for passwords on internal accounts in Alma.

This will mean that, eventually, community users won't be able to log into Primo with internal accounts (for libraries that offer such service). Ex Libris has instead implemented support for social login using Facebook or Google accounts. Using Social Login, community users can log into Primo with their Facebook or Google credentials.

Ex Libris was originally looking to make this change by the middle of this year. But because of pushback by the customer base, the change has been delayed until some time in 2018. No more specific timeframe has yet been announced.

3.       EZProxy "internal" credentials

As we also discussed, related to QuestionPoint, there is a way in EZProxy to add credentials to the EZProxy configuration that don't rely on any sort of campus authentication system. Such credentials can be set up and provided to QuestionPoint participants, for example, so that they may more easily support your library patrons with electronic resource questions.
