[Wactclc-alma] [EXTERNAL] - ILL Link for Unavailable Articles

Hello again,

I cannot seem to hide the ILL request option for items that are available. I keep getting requests from students for articles that they should just click on the full-text link.

I thought I had it set to hide in the display logic rules, but that isn't working.

Here's how it is set, is this right?

The OCLC symbol was missing from the library configuration under resource sharing, and there was no default workflow profile or resource sharing partner under configuration / resource sharing.

Those things don’t actually get used when I library’s ILL platform is WorldShare, since there is not actual integration going on, but they still need to exist in the Alma config. Those things typically get populated during implementation, but in our case we weren’t generally pursuing resource sharing functionality.

Yes, I knew that it would be only if results are expanded.

There were just a couple of configuration things that needed to be done.

I just took care of those.

So, now you’ll be able to see the resource sharing link if you’re logged into Primo, and are looking at a citation that is not available at GHC, for example:

Note that you’ll usually only see such citations if you use ‘expand my search’ to expand search results beyond what is available at GHC.

The requests themselves will appear in the Alma requests queue, under ‘Fulfillment / Resource Requests’.

If you want patrons to have access to a blank ILL form for resource sharing requests, you can enable the ‘Blankill’ (ie, “Blank ILL”) link on the ‘Links’ tab of the Primo view. That will give you a link in the top menu bar in Primo to a blank ILL form that patrons could fill out and submit. Which would then end up as a request in the Alma request queue.

I’ve been trying to set this up for GHC but I’m obviously missing something. I’ve reviewed the posts and the notes mentioned below, configuring, activating, checking boxes etc. as per the suggestions I could find.
I can’t get the “Request Inter Library Loan” option to show up in Get It.

Here is some general info… and we can certainly revisit the topic in weekly calls.

The most recent discussions on this topic were in the context of PubMed LinkOut and their requirement for a pre-populated ILL form. But the the discussion is basically the same.

Just look at the “ILL form to support PubMed LinkOut” notes, which could also just be called “ILL form to support pre-filled citation”

When “resource sharing” is enabled in the library configuration, and you use the native Alma ILL form, pre-population of the form is automatic. If you use your own ILL form (Google, LibGuides, etc), you have to work out the appropriate URL for passing the paramters.

Just post back to the list with  clarification questions.

Hi Amy,
We just moved to the Alma ILL form as well, and so far, we love it! However, I would love more information about getting pre-filled forms from external or non-owned articles.

Perhaps that is something we can cover?

We eventually decided to switch from our own homegrown ILL form to the native Alma/Primo ILL form (I think it’s called a Resource Sharing Request Form).  We went to it when we were configuring direct links to our resources in PubMed (an ILL form that accepts openurl citation values is required for that process), and our old form couldn’t do that.

When you are logged in to Primo you see the option under “How to get it” and then it expands a pre-filled form right in the record.
