[Wactclc-alma] [EXTERNAL*]- WACTCLC and what's next for the Alma / Primo project

Wade,

I have nothing to add that hasn’t been said. It’s all true! We literally could not have done all the seemingly countless software migrations over the last six years without you.

With Sally’s retirement happening at the same time, I wonder if we could organize a big send off for the both of you in May or June. Probably over Zoom based on our wide range of locations?

Wade and Sally, are y’all open to something like that?

Wait, what? You're leaving?
Oh, you will be missed by so many! (And if I weren't to be fully retired by June, you would be sorely missed by me!)

You, your knowledge, and organizational skills were exactly what we needed at exactly the right time. You got us through a steep learning curve with Alma and helped us adapt to frequent change. Since the migration, you have helped folks to get the most out of our LSP, and have also helped to welcome and orient newbies.

Thanks very much for everything, and best wishes for your future endeavors and next adventures.

-SAlly

Oh, Wade! I am sad to hear this, and I also understand the desire to move on. You have no idea how much you will be missed. You've been indispensable to this community (and did a fantastic job of creating a community - and herding us cats). Speaking for myself, I could not have managed Alma without your help, and I am so grateful for everything I've learned from you and for your responsiveness to my panicked emails when I screwed something up.

Best of luck in your future endeavors!

Hi all,

Just a head’s up to all, I’ve let the governance committee know that I won’t be looking to renew my employment contract with WACTCLC when my current contract expires at the end of June.

I’ve been working on library systems since 2004, through three different organizations, and with a specific focus for the past decade on Alma/Primo. So, needless to say, I’m feeling ready for some fresh and different horizons. 😊

Meanwhile, the Alma / Primo project is now 5 years into its existence, ctcLink will (finally) be live at all institutions as of May, and (hopefully) COVID will shortly be in the rearview mirror for all of us.

All those things combined provide an excellent time for the consortium (basically, all of you) to consider the next five years for the Alma / Primo project, and what happens now. I’m sure the governance committee will be considering the position I currently hold, and what the next iteration of the position, and the consortium, might look like. And it’s a great opportunity for participating institutions to consider your needs and desires regarding the position and the consortium.

I’m sure there will be opportunities for feedback and discussions the next 5 years and beyond. So, I’d suggest to all to begin thinking about what kinds of support your library needs or wants going forward, and what else you might wish from a shared effort like this one.
