Wade,
I have 17,000+ items that are "Unknown" within the LC report I made.

Here is a screenshot with the filter of titles (Just part of the first page).  It looks like some Active physical items are 0, so I could filter those out.  However, it also looks like a number are valid.  Thoughts?

Melinda,

Unless the LC call number fields have been stripped out of your MARC records in Alma (during implementation, or by ongoing import profile work), you should still be able to query on LC classification in Analytics.

For example, Skagit Valley College uses Dewey, and I can still do an analysis like this:

To get results that look like this. Of course, you don't need to use all classification levels. The first 2 might be enough granularity.

Essentially, we were going to "tag" (print) collections to Campus Division and Program so as to better our reporting and analysis capabilities for internal program review, defining a "balanced collection" within the college, and better plan purchases and deselection holistically.  As of right now, we are able to run reporting on Dewey categories, as that is the classification scheme we use.  Analytics will not run LC subject headings reporting (though I can search them via Primo), and even if I assign Conspectus categories to the Dewey - there are many of our programs (trades/APLED) that are left out.

Thoughts?

What kind of 9xx tagging have you been thinking about doing?

Depending on what variables you are trying to track, there may be other ways to target them.

Hi All,

We have been working to develop better reporting for decision-making for quite a while here at SCC/SFCC. I was wondering the following:

-          Are you using Alma Analytics beyond Dewey/LC canned reports to determine weaknesses in your collection and strategize weeding/budget decisions?  If so, how? (ex: by program, division, conspectus, etc.)

-          Are you using a budget allocation model toward your overall collection, and if so, would you be willing to share?

-          Do you use metrics to determine what a "balanced" collection is for your institution? If so, what does that look like?

We have planned some internal use of local 9XX tags to create some reports (through Analytics), but have to go back and "tag" the collection - however, there has been some reservation about the need to do this work (value) among librarians and I was wondering how colleges like us are using the tools at our disposal.
