I suggest that you check with your HR department to see how they are working with this rule.

Starting January 1, part-time hourly positions are limited to 1049 hours or one year, whichever comes first.  The hours clock no longer starts over each year. If they go over, they will become permanent with benefits or your HR department may separate before this happens.

OFM is accepting position to consider for exemptions and there haven’t been any decision made yet.  I’ve heard that tutoring and lab techs are being requested as exemptions by many colleges. I’m wondering about adding the part-time hourly LAPP positions since it requires specialized knowledge.

Also starting January 1, all part-time positions will receive holiday pay and those hours will most likely count toward the 1050.  OFM is still working on the details.
