[LIBRARYDIR] laptop check out

We use our Alma system, and then we send email and text messages via our Hobson system. We lost about 10% of the laptops and chromebooks we lent out last year as part of our CARES Act efforts.

After we got back as many laptops as we figured we ever would, IT "bricked" the lost laptops. Any remotely tech savvy user will be able to get around that, but at least they need to make an effort. ;)

We do a lot of emails, personal and ALMA generated. We also started doing certified letters for those that are over a month overdue. Our "loss" rate is between 3% and 7% depending on the quarter. That means that we return rate between 93% and 97%. Glad we are good company with Big Bend.

We do see a bump in returns after we've sent a batch of certified letters out.

We advertise A LOT to get them back.  Canvas/email mostly.  We can't hold grades etc. like we once did but we can always choose to not let them check out anything else ever again.

We also offer an update and renewal service if they are attending the following quarter, which works well.

No firm numbers on what we expect to get back.  In general, we probably get back 95%+.  Where we have problems has been with our ESL students for some reason.

Hi all,

Do you have a baseline past which attrition is not acceptable for returning Chromebooks and laptops? We have nearly 800 Chromebooks that are supposed to come back at the end of the quarter.  I'm assuming there is always some attrition? Thanks as always for your collective help! Claire
