The WSL Statewide Database Advisory Committee represents Washington's varied library landscape, and provides valuable guidance and assistance to the SDL project, which will be especially important during the upcoming procurement process. The current contract with ProQuest ends on June 30, 2021, and plans are to release an RFP by January of next year.

SDL Advisory Committee members are expected to, among other things:

  *   Represent the wishes and opinions of the Washington library community
  *   Make recommendations about which databases to license when central funding is involved, about cost allocation formulas, license terms and conditions, and other such matters related to cooperative licensing;
  *   Assist with the formal procurement process, reviewing and scoring vendor proposals, and making recommendations on awarding and negotiating contracts;

The CTC library community has traditionally been represented on the Committee by two individuals, one "front line" CTC library staff member (currently Karen Fernandez, Highline College), and one LLC director or designee. The latter position is currently unfilled having been held for many years by Jane Blume, who recently retired as Library Director at Bellingham Technical College.

If it is not convenient for a CTC library director to serve in this capacity, the group may designate another library staff member to represent the LLC on the committee.

Regarding the time commitment involved: the Committee can go for months at a time with little or no activity, but this alternates with a fairly intensive time commitment for brief periods during a procurement process such as the one coming up next year. Until then, the SDL Project Manager (Will Stuivenga) will be sending out Needs Assessment reports and RFP drafts, which shouldn't require more than an hour a week to review, if that.
