[LIBRARYDIR] 2 upcoming Leadership and Supervisory training workshops

I just checked with Tami Masenheimer, who is the Training Coordinator here, and these workshops are meant for anyone in a leadership or supervisory role, as well as for others who may aspire to a leadership or supervisory position.

Greg-thanks for the feedback on the calendar system. We are looking at improving it in several ways, including your suggestions.

Also, I apologize for not sharing this information with you all sooner. I will try to let you know about future trainings closer to when they are scheduled.

Thanks Mike. Is there any plan on integrating a notification or newsletter system for the calendar? (Checking manually is tough.)

Also, how far in advance are these scheduled? September 30th would be great but hearing about it less than two weeks away is kind of a juggle!

Washington State Library has scheduled two training sessions in Western WA with Jan Dwyer Bang, a speaker and presenter who focuses on developing supervisory and leadership skills.  This workshop is all day (6 hours) and is described below.  Jan develops her workshops based on the attendees needs and will be contacting those who have signed up to understand their professional development goals, struggles, and areas of growth.  This ensures that at each location  the training is geared toward what your staff need to become better and more effective.  There is no charge for these workshops, but preregistration is required. This workshop provides an overview and introduction to help new leaders take the steps to become an effective supervisor. Through discussions, self-reflection, classroom activities, and real-life scenarios, library leaders will be able to reflect upon their supervisory and leadership potential. This one-day leadership training will provide Washington State Library leaders with what they need to bridge the gap between where they are and where they need to be as it relates to leadership. Leaders will consider their supervision and leadership potential, learn tools to becoming an exceptional leader, and strengthen skills around working with their teams.
Topics to be covered: Teambuilding and collaboration, self-awareness, communication skills, delegation, decision making, and public speaking skills.
At the completion of this course, leaders should be able to:
* Identify the core responsibilities of a supervisor
* Recognize strengths and identify skill gaps
* Give and receive feedback
* Recognize the value of coaching, mentoring, and training
